How to show a home on a rainy day – Michigan home selling tips
Let's get your home sold no matter what type of day it is
How to stage your bedroom

When you list your Michigan home it just does not stop at preparing your home for sale.  We want to get top dollar for your home.  It does not matter whether the home is in Oakland County or Wayne County or Livingston County so the next stage after you get your home ready to sell is all about the staging.  When you show your home you can’t be cheap.  You may have a high electric bill for a month or two, but the money you get from the sale of your home will more than pay for it.  So don’t be cheap when buyers come to view your home.  We want your home to sell as quickly as possible.  So now is not the time to cut back on the heat, or air conditioning, or on the lights when showing your home.

If you are showing your Michigan home on a dreary, rainy day it is going to be dark and gloomy because of the clouds over head.  Home buyers and everybody in general don’t love dreary days.  It’s not like a sunny day.  So how do you get people out of that funky mood.  The key is to turn on all your lights on a rainy day.  You should increase the wattage of all your light bulbs when you get ready to sell your home.  It is just a small cost.  You want to light up the whole room.  Borrow a floor lamp to light up dark rooms that do not have a ceiling light.  Home buyers usually like bright and cheery houses.  It’s a proven fact that bright homes sell faster. A dark and gloomy  Michigan home will sit on the market longer.  So turn on under the cabinet lights, bathroom lights, closet lights, basement lights, and even lights in cabinets.  Every light helps.  Open the drapes, curtains, and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible.

Make your kitchen stand out

I honestly do not like to show homes on a rainy day because nothing really stands out to the home buyers.   Especially Michigan lake homes.  Lake home buyers would rather see the sun sparkling off the lake.  It is the same way with homes in subdivision.  The yard looks better and homes inside always are a little lighter by natural sunlight.  I would bet that most of the homes I sell when I show them to home buyers are on clear bright days.  So open all the drapes, curtains, and turn on all the lights in your home when it is cloudy and rainy.

Turn on the lights

The second Michigan home selling tip is: turn up the heat a little when it is damp, cold, and rainy.  Take the chill out of your home.  Don’t make it too warm.  But make it comfortable.  If you have a fireplace, turn it on.  You will be setting the stage for a warm cozy home.  Of course if it is 70 0r 80 degrees out you don’t need to turn the heat on.

Here are a few of the old articles I wrote years ago that you may want to read.   First one is about Lower Long Lake homes in Bloomfield Twp MI.   I would call Lower Long Lake a more upper end lake because of it being in Bloomfield.  There are just not many lakes in Bloomfield Hills or Bloomfield Township.  If you are buying a home read these Livonia home buying tips – No need to worry   They work for any city you are going to buy in.  It does not matter if you are buying in Bristol Corners Subdivision Novi MI or Dearborn, or Royal Oak.  They help.  6 Home Selling Tips for your Farmington Hills home.  The goal of a good realtor is to help you get top dollar for your home.  Not only is it about preparing your home for sale, but it is also about doing only the items needed that bring a return.  Then you have to stage your home for sale once you list it.  It’s the whole package of preparing and staging.  Like I said it doesn’t matter if your home is in the Bradford of Novi Subdivision in Novi Michigan or in Rochester.  It pays to plan your sale of your home.
