West Bloomfield does not have an actual central city center. West Bloomfield Township was founded in 1833 but there are relatively few historic homes. Many of the older homes are located around the lakes in West Bloomfield. I would say that the majority of the homes (75%) were built from the 1950’s and later. Metro Detroit and West Bloomfield experienced a building boom from the 1980’s to about 2006.

If you are looking for the unofficial center of West Bloomfield Township Michigan it would be Orchard Lake Road. Orchard Lake Road has all the stores, restaurants, and bars that serve the citizens of West Bloomfield and other locals. There is almost anything you need right there. Orchard Lake Road can get busy at certain times of the day because of all the shoppers coming to the area.

Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield runs from 14 Mile Road all the way up to Commerce Road. But there are stores and restaurants all the way down to 12 Mile Road. Of course there are small strip malls in other parts of the city. The other major area is along Haggerty Road. There are many stores along the west side of Haggerty Road. The stores are not actually in West Bloomfield Township, but across the street from the community.
