Are you thinking of moving into a lakefront home on Lake Orion? Lake Orion is a great lake because it is not a round lake. I would say it is more like a u-shaped lake with many fingers going off in different directions. The reason I say it is a U shaped lake is because there is a peninsula that splits the lake in half. The peninsula is about three quarter the length of the lake. It is like there are two good sized lakes side by side. Add to the 5 fingers that go off the lake in different directions you have a lake that isn’t boring. Plus there are five islands too!
There are canals and little bays that many lake homes are situated on. On those canals you get the pleasure of living on the water but with little boat noise and no boat traffic. Lake Orion in Oakland County is a public all sports lake. It would be classified as one of the bigger Oakland County lakes. Like most of Michigan inland lakes lake traffic during the week is quiet. During the weekend all the Lake Orion home owners come out to play on the lake.
As you can see from the picture next to here there are some Lake Orion homes that sit on larger lots. But there are also lake homes that are on small lots right next to the neighbors. Being on the small lots have not stopped the waterfront home owners from going up or adding on as much as they can on the smaller lots. You will see what I call shotgun houses on some of these narrow lots. A shotgun is a long narrow home. It’s not a narrow house at all. It’s like a normal house but turned sideways. Many time on these small lots the garage is what you see from the road. The lakeside is where you see the home.

I want to talk about the lake life style. If you have never lived on a lake you will be amazed on how your life will be different. You can get on the boat with or without cocktails to watch the sunset on beautiful fall nights. You will be able to sit on your deck or patio and enjoy the view of the water. Some people just love watching the ducks and geese, or other people boating by. You will wave or just keep doing what you are doing.
I would say lake life is a little more social. You will actually get to know your neighbors. You will talk to people on the lake that you have never met before. That just normal lake courtesy that you don’t see in normal neighborhoods. I live in Livonia for 23 years. I look back now and wonder what I did at night or on the weekends? Now that I am on the lake I’m out enjoying the lake all the time!

Here are 4 Best Lakes in Oakland County Michigan or the 3 Best Lakes in Oakland County. Many lake home owners may disagree with my choices. That would be normal because so many lake home owners always believe their lake is the best. I myself live on White Lake in White Lake Township. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I love my lake! Just like you will love yours when you buy a lake home.
