Northville real estate – Moving to Detroit suburbs

What are the prevalent home styles in Northville real estate.  I guess I would say it is colonials.  Northville lot prices and land prices have skyrockets in the last few years.  So it is not economical to build small homes.  It’s not economical to build ranch homes.  The land costs too much now days.

Back in the early days of Northville much of the building was centered around the downtown area.

In the 1950’s and 1960’s Northville started building.  There were ranches, colonials and some split level homes built.  The building continued into the 1970’s then we had a lull until 1983.  Then building really took off in Northville and much of the western suburbs of Detroit.

Like I said many of the homes were colonials.  They were 3-4 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths brick colonials with basements and 2 car garages.  They were ranging in the 2000 to 2500 square foot in most cases.

Then Northville real estate changed in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.  Northville home sizes got bigger.  Colonials changed.  Ceilings got taller,  great rooms had 2 story ceilings.   Some homes now had 3 and 4 car garages.  Walkout basements were preferred now.  Back in the 1970’s there were not a lot of walkout basements.

Developers now graded the land differently.  So when moving to the Detroit suburbs Northville real estate has distinct characteristics depending on the age of the home.  It’s a great place to live so check it out.
