Michigan relocation guide -pt 1

Michigan relocation guide -pt 1

Are you moving to Michigan because of a job transfer or are you coming home to Michigan after many years away?  Here is a little Michigan relocation guide to the area. You may not know the area very well.  As most of you know from the national new the City of Detroit does have a high crime rate, poor city services, slow police and ambulance response time, and a school system that has a low graduation rate.

So where do you look to move to when relocating to Michigan?  You look at the suburbs of Metro Detroit.  On the east side of Detroit is the Detroit River and Canada.  The suburbs are to the south, west, and north of the city.  If you look at a map you will notice three major highways that sort of make a perimeter around the city  I-94 to the south, I-275 to the west, and I-696 to the north.  You will find that many of metro Detroit top cities with high demographics, and good school systems will be south of I-94, west of I-275, and north of I-696.  These three major highways are about a 20 to 25 minute ride from downtown Detroit.  So that will give you an idea of travel time.

This is where homes with the greatest appreciation and good school systems will be.  I always recommend buying a home in the best school system you can afford.  A good school system holds up home values.  Crime rates are usually low in cities with good school systems.  Everything seems to go hand in hand.  In cities that have poor schools, you will usually find higher crime and cities with less city services.  The closer to Detroit you are you will find higher crimes rates.  In most cases the further out you are from the city the less likely you are to find that the crime rates are high.

It is sad to say but crime seems to over flow out to the first ring of cities around Detroit.  When moving to Michigan ask you Human resources person of cities that they recommend.  Ask co-workers.  Call a local insurance agent.  They will be able to tell you where the lower insurance rates are.  That is where the crime is lower.  Ask somebody who lives here.

If you are moving to Michigan do a couple of quick real estate searches,  Look at the price range you will be in.  Then look at your travel time to work.  Use map quest or google maps to find your travel time from your work to the cities you like.  Then use bing to put in search words like “compare schools” or “rate schools.  You will come up with some good websites to find the good school systems in the Metro Detroit area.  If you have questions about Metro Detroit give me a call.  My cell is (248)310-6239.  I know the area, the communities, and the little things you may want to know about the suburbs.  I have lived here my whole life and am a full time realtor.  Let me make your move easier!Click Here to Check Your Home’s Value
